Wardruna – Helvegen II (Official Music Video)

For some years now, we have been quietly working on a new recorded version of Helvegen. Not to replace the original, but to reflect what the song has gradually become. Helvegen has continued to evolve. More than any other song we have written, it has taken on a life of its own.

Released alongside this new recording is a new music film directed by longtime Wardruna collaborator Tuukka Koski and filmed on location in Iceland. Together, the recording and film reflect what Helvegen has gradually become through more than a decade of performances and the countless lives in which it has found a place.

Listen to Helvegen II:

If this new recording offers anything beyond itself, it is to encourage a renewed relationship with song, not only as something we perform or listen to, but as something that can accompany us through life.

A tradition does not truly survive when it is merely remembered, but when it is lived.

  1. Tradition lives through practice, through being carried, shared and given meaning.
If this song has a place in your own remembrance, you are welcome to leave a name here.

  2. I lost my Dad 2 days ago for cancer, we fought for him during 2 months, yesterday was his funeral. Now listen this as a big fan i am with this kind of music, its like a farewell present to me and to my dad. Thank you for this ❤

  3. This was the first song I ever heard by this band, and I fell in love with them instantly. The song gives me goosebumps and allows me to dive into the depths of my own consciousness. Thank you for your masterpieces.

  4. Wardrunga. I started to listen to this at ,10 pm. No one knew. As the music started. You know I live in the ghetto. A fight broke out upstairs and outside and someone's body hit the house.
So about the words. As I walk the road to hell. Hére in the ghetto I feel it is the gateway and entry road to hell.
My great great great grandfather Sitting Bull told me he felt earth is only cold. The picture s of him alone on a horse in a blizzard are how he felt about his life.
    Thanks

  5. I've just watched my twice for the first time. I had just read some ancestral oracle cards. Feathers, wings, and birds have been appearing for me. I meditate. I look at my phone and I see a notification for this video. I watch this and it's so intense, the imagery, the feathers and raven, and on top of that, it's filmed in Iceland. I feel like I've been here, to this beach, to this place. My stomach also erupts with an ache. I had an odd feeling this evening that something felt strange. Maybe we're so close to Samhain, everything feels kind of powerful and strange. There are so many coincidences these days, signs, messages. I don't fully know how to make sense of it all and I have to turn my logical brain off and just see, feel, and listen. I've been to Iceland. I can see and feel the wind and chill, the power of the earth and water in this video, their faces. I feel the grief, the pain, sorrow, and loss. Walking into the sea, letting go, being afraid, I feel all of that. I feel myself letting go, letting the veil fly away. Fly away.

  6. Beautiful and deeply moving. Helvegen has always held a special place in my heart, but this new version gives me goosebumps. Thank you for this magic!
Absolutely breathtaking. It moved me to tears. Wardruna's music doesn't just play; it speaks directly to the soul. ❤

  7. A ghost? Shaved as if the ghost had chemotherapy. A ghost that still longs for the living? Music can give ghosts a way to find their home, wherever the home is. The ghost is finally free. One does need to be pagan to believe that ghosts are here and we can sing them to their freedom. Thanks for the video. Powerful, as usual, beautiful, as Wardruna are so skilled to convey…intense, spiritual.

  8. escucho atentamente y conecto con las mas altas vibraciones del universo, me siento transportado en un carruaje formado por un séquito de cuervos y me tranquiliza saber que la muerte es un paso más…….el ojo de Odín me escruta en el camino

  9. Despite being Mexican… This song resonates in me a lot. Specially since four months passed since my grandmother's death by stroke. May her soul rest in peace!

P.S: If one day I die, I want this version to be played along Echoes of Roman Ruins by Jesper Kyd.

  10. Amazing version, my father passed away exactly one year ago , this song is an amazing way to think on those who are no longer among us is a good way to commemorate the life of our ancestors. Greetings from Mexico , I hope you can come back soon.

  11. I saw you perform this song live in London, in 2013. It was 6 months after my first wife died of cancer, and I had tears running down my face. I love the lines "You will be loosed from the bonds that bind you; you are loosed from the bonds that bound you." I hope that someone will sing me to Hel when the time comes, so that my soul can sleep for a while before starting a new adventure.
