On the Halloween weekend of 2026, the actions of the official Dead by Daylight Twitch brought an unprecedented level of backlash to the point where even major media outlets were reporting on it. This video attempts to explain the events as they happened and give a bit of context to hopefully help defuse this very ugly situation.

I've specifically gone out of my way to avoid naming the specific employee that was seemingly behind this decision and I urge everyone to avoid mentioning their name regardless of how you feel about the magnitude of this controversy. I think it's everyone's responsibility to avoid witch-hunts that will do NOTHING to help the situation. As stated multiple times in the video; please don't contribute to the harassment of any individuals and direct your feedback and criticism towards the company responsible. Thank you.
I also addressed a few other things in more detail in the full livestream. Here's a link to it with timestamps in the pinned comment if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/live/rqtceyjqjmI?si=Am6rGXLLa4fbMtM_&t=2374
The inclusive and Tolerant got mad that someone was inclusive and Tolerant.
People keep using the "gay community" tag as if that automatically means they are good people.
The DBD community is toxic, gay and straight.
They are crashing out over a content creator getting skins as if its an attack on their gay identity.
The fact that you still give the light of day to this game and company after all the shit they have done (and keep doing) is beyond me.
The DBD community is the most toxic gender mentally ill community I’ve ever witnessed
The dbd community is so exhausting man like how do u get this mad over ts😭 its an absolute nothingburger but dbd players will whine and cry over anything. bunch of babies that have no real problems man its wild
You got ratio'd by asmon so you tell me who has the right opinion
biggest buddy award:🏅
jfc this cannot be scripted
once again their own community proving how shitty the dbd community is
These people are not our equals
My takeaways:
1. Being upset at TBP for getting free stuff? On its own, I'd consider that petty, but with everything else taken into account, such as BHVR's public facing support of the LGBT community, hundreds of other content creators never getting so much as acknowledged, much less free stuff, and to an extent, TBP's controversial reputation, I understand the criticism and think it's fair. And look, I despise TBP, but a company giving a content creator, especially a popular content creator, free stuff isn't anything new. If it had been another company who didn't publicly pander to the LGBT community and who regularly gave out free stuff to more content creators (or hell, just the 3M blood points, unlocking all characters is RIDICULOUS overkill for any streamer), then I wouldn't have even batted an eye at TBP getting free stuff, controversial or not. A company's gotta do what it's gotta do to make money and shill their product.
2. Otz, I think you're reading too much into "a Dead by Deadlight employee." I don't think it's implying that they're trying to pass blame onto a single employee. If they wanted to do that, they could've named them a "rogue employee" and openly announced their termination if that was the case. Focusing on that phrase alone is taking it out of the context of the rest of the post, where they admit their own faults as a company. It's this kind of attitude that makes apologies completely pointless in today's age, as everybody will completely dismiss said apologies and draw their own conclusions no matter what.
3. Figuring out exactly which employee pulled this stunt is seriously unhinged and this type of behavior has become far too prevalent online. Regardless of how you feel about BHVR, I agree that it'll never be acceptable to harass an employee (or ANYONE ) like that. Do I feel sorry for BHVR as a company? Absolutely not, but people just can't help themselves and end up taking things way too far.
4. I think Sammymjay's post is a bit contradictory. They frame the "big questions" as "why was this particular creator given free stuff" and "what was the reason that led to that decision." Both of those questions are answered – an employee made a decision that never received proper approval. Should the company take responsibility? Yes, absolutely, but what kind of answer is Sammy expecting here? Interview the individual employee, find out exactly why this individual made the decision, and turn them into an even bigger scapegoat? The company stated that they've begun reviewing their internal processes to prevent this situation from happening again, yet Sammy demands transparency and meaningful reassurance about exactly what will change in the future, so what kind of answer are they expecting here? Are they expecting a company to make its internal policies public? Because if that's the case, they will never get what they want. No company is going to just post their internal employee policies publicly, that's insane.
5. The first apology felt rushed because they panicked,. and appropriately so. The alternative would've been to remain silent at a time where everyone was demanding an immediate apology. It's a lose/lose situation for them. BHVR deserves all the criticism they're getting, but it's also important to take a step back and ask ourselves what exactly should we expect them to do at this point? They gave their apology. If you don't think it's sufficient or don't believe them, then stop supporting them. That's the appropriate response. If you sit here demanding answers you will never reasonably get and continue supporting them, then you're only hurting yourself at that point. It's easy to denounce the "pitchforks and bandwagon" behavior, but a lot of people don't realize that they themselves are contributing to that mentality even when they think they're not. At this point, there are people who will never give them another chance and are gone forever no matter what they do. It's not a case of "this will take a long time to repair", it's a case of "this is utterly irreparable", and that's due in part to the pitchfork mentality.
Wow, there’s someone who woke up today caring about the burnt peanut and the dbd controversy
Bunch of fucking crybabies, I swear to God.
"Horror spaces are very adjacent to LGBT people"
Who decided that?
The first two movies closest to the slasher genre had absolutely nothing to do with LGBT (Psycho and Peeping Tom), and that's just me mentioning my favorite subgenre, not even going into actual horror flagships. LGBT loves to claim spaces when they already have their own community. Doesn't need to be a thing.
LGBT ruining another medium! W
So much to do over Halloween weekend and people choosing to be outraged about this? Lol but I’m not in the LGBT community nor am I that familiar with peanut so I guess it’s not something I can understand.
Prerty much a trash take.
Peanut is in no way controversial. That's not an opinion. That is a fact.
DbD 'community' is trash and they showed it.
Maybe I am just not online enough, but how is the horror space any more adjacent to the lgbtq community than any other community? 6:31 for reference not trying to cause anything genuinely just confused
Least insane twitter pussy the guy who sent the threats

LGBT+ is gatekeeping their favourite game
basic human empathy o algo
Content creators shouldn’t just get free in game content that costs money that other normal people have to pay for. Don’t get me wrong it’s really cool and unique when creators get special items that nobody or very few people have access to. Never should a company just hand out wads of cash to creators when they can’t do the same to their community
wait i didnt even know what happened to cocoakisses! i love her thats so sad!! bvhr needs to do better
